Rajasthan is the most-photographed wedding state in India for a reason: it offers more visual variety per square kilometre than anywhere else in the country. Golden sandstone forts, sapphire-blue Mehrangarh facades, peacock-courted Mughal gardens, vast Thar Desert dunes, and Lake Pichola at twilight — all within driving distance of each other. For couples planning a pre-wedding shoot, Rajasthan is the obvious destination.
This guide covers 20 hand-picked locations across Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, and Jaisalmer — with permit info, best timings, photographer recommendations, and the operational details most couples (and even some photographers) miss.

2. Patrika Gate (Jawahar Circle)
The most-photographed Jaipur location of the last 5 years. Nine vibrantly painted arches with Rajasthani frescoes. Iconic for pre-wedding shoots.

Choosing Your Photographer
For Rajasthan pre-wedding shoots, three options:
1. Flying in your home-city photographer
Cost: ₹50K-3L + their travel/stay (₹15-50K). Pros: known style, consistency with wedding photographer. Cons: they may not know location-specific permits and timings.
2. Hiring a Rajasthan-specialist photographer
Cost: ₹30K-2L. Pros: deep location knowledge, established permit contacts, knows the lighting. Cons: less personal continuity.
3. Bundling with your wedding planner
Many destination wedding planners (including us) offer pre-wedding shoot coordination — we book your venue, recommend specialised pre-wedding photographers, handle permits, manage logistics. Single point of contact.
Practical Logistics
- Permits: Always apply 14+ days in advance. ASI permits go through slower channels than private locations.
- Outfits: Bring 2-3 outfit changes minimum. Allow for shooting one outfit per location.
- Mehndi/makeup: Don't do pre-wedding shoot during your bridal mehndi period — colour will be unevenly developed.
- Number of days: Single-day shoots are stressful and cover only 2-3 locations. Plan 2-3 days minimum for a full Rajasthan circuit.
- Transport: Always have a dedicated vehicle with AC, room for outfits, water, snacks, props. Public transport is impractical.

The Bottom Line
A Rajasthan pre-wedding shoot rewards planning. The best locations require permits, the best lighting is morning or late evening (often missed by guests), and the operational logistics (transport, outfit changes, permit timing) need to be coordinated days in advance.
For destination wedding couples already planning their wedding in Rajasthan, combining the pre-wedding shoot with the wedding visit reduces total trip costs and lets the photographer establish a creative direction before the wedding itself.
